How the Showermi$er Saves Water on Your Winter Caravan Trip

July is prime time for caravanning and free camping across Australia. The heat has backed off, the flies have settled down and travellers are heading north to enjoy cooler conditions and some of the country's most popular winter destinations.

But winter travel comes with a challenge many travellers don't think about until they're already on the road.

Every hot shower can waste litres of water before you've even stepped into it.

When you're free camping or travelling through remote areas, every litre matters.

Running out of water often means changing your plans, finding a refill point sooner than expected or moving on before you're ready.

That's exactly the problem the Topargee Showermi$er was designed to solve.

The Problem: Water Wasted Before Your Shower Even Starts

Every time you turn on your shower, there's a delay while hot water travels from your hot water system through the plumbing to the shower head.

During that time, cold water flows straight down the drain.

In winter, this delay is often longer because colder temperatures mean pipes and water lines take more time to warm up.

That water doesn't disappear. It ends up in your grey water tank before you've even started showering.

Depending on your plumbing layout, the amount of water wasted can be significant. If your shower wastes 3-5 litres while waiting for hot water and there is more than one of you then this amount quickly mounts up.

Over a weeklong trip, a couple could recover more than 40 litres of water that would otherwise have gone down the drain.  When you're relying on a finite water supply, that's water worth keeping.

How the Showermi$er Works

The Showermi$er is a patented water-saving device that installs into your caravan, RV or boat's shower plumbing.  When you turn on the shower, the cold water that would normally run down the drain is redirected back into your freshwater tank.

Instead of wasting that water, you're recovering it.

The Showermi$er’s colour-changing indicator makes the process simple. As hot water reaches the unit, the indicator changes from blue to white in approximately four seconds. Once the indicator changes colour, you switch the diverter and enjoy your hot shower as normal. No timers. No guessing when the water is hot. Just water recovered and returned to your tank.

Save Fresh Water and Grey Water Capacity

Every litre sent down the drain reduces the amount of fresh water available for drinking, cooking and showering. At the same time, it fills your grey water tank.

By returning cold water to your freshwater tank instead, the Showermi$er helps reduce unnecessary grey water build-up while preserving your usable water supply.

For travellers who enjoy extended free camping, this can make a meaningful difference to how long they can comfortably stay off grid.

What Does That Mean in Practice?

Depending on your plumbing layout and shower habits, recovering water that would otherwise be wasted can significantly reduce overall shower water consumption. In some installations, this can represent savings of up to 40%.

That translates into practical benefits such as:

  • More nights without needing a water top-up

  • Greater flexibility when free camping

  • Less reliance on caravan parks simply to access water

  • Reduced grey water accumulation between dumping points

  • Better use of your existing caravan water tank capacity

Water wasted before a shower starts is water you can't get back. Recovering it is straightforward with the right setup.

Without vs With a Showermi$er

Without a Showermi$er

With a Showermi$er

Cold water is returned to the freshwater tank

Fresh water is lost

Fresh water is recovered

Grey water tank fills faster

Grey water tank fills more slowly

Why Winter Is the Best Time to Install One

Winter travel places greater demands on your water system than almost any other season.  Hot water takes longer to reach the shower, colder conditions can increase water use, and remote destinations often mean fewer opportunities to refill your tanks.  As a result, water conservation becomes even more important.

The Showermi$er doesn't require you to change how you travel or sacrifice comfort. It simply recovers water that would otherwise be wasted while waiting for hot water to arrive.

Save up to 40% of your shower water. Stay off grid longer.
